The Jockey Club of Peru was established on April 4, 1946 and its main objective is to promote the development and improvement of the horse by organizing racing and other equine sports and activities. On December 18, 1960 the Hipódromo de Monterrico was opened in Lima and is considered one of the best racetracks in Latin America.

Throughout its 55 years of existence, the Hipódromo de Monterrico has been the scene of large national and international equestrian events such as the 2014 Longines Gran Premio Latinoamericano which was won by the Peruvian horse Lideris.
