Owned by Mr. and Mrs. John Magnier and their family Coolmore Stud is arguably the world’s biggest and most successful thoroughbred breeding and racing operation. Headquartered in County Tipperary, Ireland Coolmore is home to some of the world’s finest stallions and broodmares. Their international satellites include Coolmore America at Ashford Stud which is located in the heart of the Bluegrass Region in Versailles, Kentucky and Coolmore Australia located in New South Wales’ fertile Hunter Valley. Coolmore’s racing arm is located at the world famous Ballydoyle Stables not far from Coolmore Ireland. There the future champions are developed under the watchful eye of Aidan O’Brien who took over as the “Master Of Ballydoyle” upon the retirement of Vincent O’ Brien who was John Magnier’s father in law.

Coolmore was home to the legendary Sadler’s Wells whose influence at Coolmore is still widely felt through his son Galileo who was an Epsom and Irish Derby winner trained by Aidan O’Brien. Galileo is now widely perceived as the world’s most successful sire and has been Champion Sire 5 times in Europe. Gaileo is represented at Coolmore by fellow Epsom Derby winners and exciting young sires Ruler Of The World and Australia. Coolmore America is home to “The Iron Horse” Giant’s Causeway, a six time Grade 1 winner, who has been Champion Sire in the United States three times. Exciting young sires at Ashford include Declaration Of War, Scat Daddy and Uncle Mo. Coolmore Australia is home to Champion sires also, including the now retired Encosta De Lago and Fastnet Rock and is the Southern Hemisphere base for many of the Northern Hemisphere based shuttlers including Camelot, Excelebration and 10 time Grade 1 winner So You Think.

Coolmore’s Southern Hemisphere influence also extends to South America where the operation has shuttled over 30 individual stallions in the last ten years. They have sent stallions to Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Brazil and they deal with some of the biggest breeders in the region. Coolmore is a big believer in the South American Horse and has supported breeders with both proven and unproven stallions such as Giant’s Causeway, Scat Daddy, Thunder Gulch, Fusaichi Pegasus, Mastercraftsman, Holy Roman Emperor and Shanghai Bobby to name but a few. Scat Daddy has proven to be a revelation in Chile siring 8 individual Group 1 winners in his first two crops in South America including the recently exported and US bound 4 time Group 1 winner Il Campione.
